The risks to which the gamers are unknowingly exposed

An extensive study shows the negative effects of video game addiction.

Addiction to video games has a negative impact on personal and social relationships and contributes to depression and heart stress, according to a study quoted by the Press Association.

Statistics that included data from 130,000 gaming enthusiasts across multiple countries have shown that lowering family harmony and adverse effects on mental and physical health can be directly associated with gaming addiction.

A team of scientists from Nottingham Trent University and the University of Oulu, Finland, found that addiction causes symptoms such as cardiovascular stress, nervous system problems, sleep disorders, joint pain, and reduced physical activity.

The study also mentions that players have a reduction in social integration in education, attitudes and negative parenting patterns, shyness, loneliness, and social phobia.

Depression and anxiety were common factors in the study, with gaming addiction being responsible for 7% and 8%, respectively.

Research also showed that 16% of the problems associated with obsessive-compulsive disorder and physical symptoms were caused by this activity.

Doctor Halley Pontes, a researcher at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Nottingham Trent University, said these findings are useful for informing both mental health professionals and the public about what is the gaming addition and jow does it affect our health.

He said that their work is important because it demonstrates a wide range of health implications associated with video game addiction.
