3 years ago, I asked a difficult question: Is Nokia going to make a comeback from its downfall? That question will be answered next year, since Nokia announced its return to the smartphone market! This is not a rumor, it’s an official confirmation from the company through a presentation made to investors at Capital Markets Day event.
What does it mean exactly for us? According to their plan, Nokia will produce smartphones and gadgets under a new brand, a Finnish company called HMD Global. They will own the new brand and the patent and will oversee the creation of their new smartphones. This new collaboration will combine the Nokia brand, patents and supervising R & D department at Foxconn. HMD has an exclusive 10-year agreement with Nokia brand.
The first new Nokia smartphone would be launched in the second half of 2017 at Mobile World Congress. The phone should come with the Android operating system. Is this the comeback I was talking about 3 years ago?
