NASA has just announced that they will publish all their research online and you will be able to read it and download it for free. Usually, this type of content is not available for the general public and, when it is, it costs a lot. NASA is breaking the pattern here, letting everyone on Earth support and add their own contribution to the research.
“At NASA, we are celebrating this opportunity to extend access to our extensive portfolio of scientific and technical publications … Through open access and innovation we invite the global community to join us in exploring Earth, air and space. ” said NASA Deputy Administrator Dava Newman in a press release. The research can be accessed on the NASA’s PubSpace website.
Obama administration has pressured the agency to make their research easier to access, believing that this endeavour will increase the popularity of science and it will extend and enhance the public knowledge.
In a similar effort, the EU (European Union) said that they’ll make all of their scientific research free, but we’ll have to wait until 2020 in order to access it.
