The human creativity has always led to great inspiring monuments, even before the age of modern technology. The Pyramids of Egypt, large Roman Catholic cathedrals like Sagrada Família located in Barcelona, the Eiffel Tower from Paris, even the Statue of Liberty from New York City mark our greatest achievements as a species and they have stand tall across time, representing a symbol of innovation, freedom and ultimately human bonding. But we have not stopped yet, and each decade new structural wonders are built all over the world. In the following list, I will try to capture a collection of top 10 lesser known wonders of modern technology.
West Kowloon Terminus (WKT) is a massive project that’s currently under construction, but not for long (hopefully). Located in the Hong Kong Section of Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong Express Rail Link (XRL), when it will be ready it will definitely be one of humankind’s most astonishing achievements.
Atlantic Ocean Road (Atlanterhavsveien) is located in Norway and it has a length of 8.3 kilometers and a width of 6.5 meters, crossing an archipelago of islands and connecting the villages of Kårvåg on Averøy and Vevang in Eida.
Gardens by the Bay is the a must-visit place if you ever find yourself passing thrhough Singapore. Here, you can enjoy Supertree Grove, among nature’s highest measuring between 25 and 50 metres tall. But I will get back to this area in the end of this article.
Yan’an East Road overpass, Interchange is located in Shangai, China and it marks a beautiful solution for a city with heavy traffic and with citizens that are eager to get home from work at a reasonable hour.
The Bandra Ohm is an ambitious residential high-rise project deigned by James Law Cybertecture. The 30 story tower is supposed to be built in Mumbai, so we can consider it under development. If you are looking to have a beautiful vacation in a luxury condo with balcony pools, this is definitely an option you should consider (when it is finished).
Wuppertal Suspension Railway is located in Germany and it brags to be the oldest Electric Elevated Railway in the world. The first track opened in 1901 and it is a beautiful solution for cities having narrow streets.
The Magdeburg Water Bridge is another wonder of modern technology that’s located in central Germany. This structure spans over the river Elbe and directly connects the Mittellandkanal to the west and Elbe-Havel Canal to the east of the river (source: Wikipedia).
Gate Tower Building is an office building located in Fukushima-ku, Osaka, Japan. It has 16 levels and it is surrounded by other tall business buildings, as expected. Nothing amazing so far, right? Well, have you noticed the highway that passes through the building?
Burj Al Arab Hotel is a hotel located in Dubai that’s known all over the world for luxury and best possible services that money can buy. You probably know what it stands for and how it looks, but you may not know is that it has guest rooms that are literally under water.
The Float at Marina Bay is a football stadium located in Singapore that’s literally floating on water. But thanks to this image taken by a fellow Reddit user, you can also enjoy the the most spectacular hotel in Singapore, the Marina Bay Sands.
