The Genetic Origins of Europeans. Who are they related to?

The ancient populations from Siberia were related with the first humans that colonized the American continent during the Ice Age. According to a study published few days ago, they’ve mixed with ancient populations from Europe, leaving their footprint on modern Europeans’ DNA.

Until today, it was generally believed that Europeans are descendants of the two groups of populations. The first where hunter-gatherers located in the western regions of Europe, living on the old continent ever since the first human colonization that took place 40,000 years ago. The second group was actually a population of farmers that migrated to Europe about 7,000 years ago in the regions that covers now Syria, Turkey and Iraq.

The new released study shows the existence and the influence of “old northern Eurasians”, a hunter-gatherer population that originated from Syberia.

Although it was generally believed that Europeans are a single group of population, they have a complex genetic history.
