Let’s face it, these days most people use smartphones to take pictures of special events in their life. Professional photographers will always debate that any picture taken with a smartphone has no artistic value and it will never achieve the detail level of a picture taken with a DSLR. Now, they need to think twice before debating because Sony has just revealed two devices that could change the way we take photos with our smartphones.
Out of nowhere, just like a magician, Sony revealed two lens modules for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets that will bring entirely new capabilities to the overall performance of the smartphone’s camera. They act as a stand-alone accessory that allow the user to capture outstanding photos.
The two models are named DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100 and they are “borrowed” from Sony’s RX100 II camera. The two lenses are powered by a BIONZ processor and they feature Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity and a SD card slot. There is no LCD screen on board, since the DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100 lenses are attached magnetically to the host device and they are controlled from the special app provided by Sony via WiFi or NFC.
It’s suffice to say that these lenses will nullify the competition in this area, since the QX100 model incorporates a 20.2 megapixel camera sensor, and QX10 incorporates the 18 megapixel camera sensor.
However, competitors like Olloclip can rest peacefully, since the price for these lenses will not be very cheap. The official release and the presentation is probably planned for September 4.
