InFocus New tab F1: The first Firefox OS tablet (specs and features)

Although the Firefox OS is currently used on a handful of cheap smartphones that are available in some countries, Mozilla intends to tackle the tablet market in a hope to extend its customer base and to adapt to the today’s trends.

The first Firefox OS tablet surfaced recently and it seems to be the result of a collaboration between Foxconn and Mozilla. The new Firefox tablet is called InFocus New tab F1 and it is powered by a Cortex A7 quad-core processor clocked at 1GHz, it has a PowerVR SGX544MP2 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and a microSD slot. The tablet features a 10.1-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and it offers a main camera of 5 megapixels and a secondary front camera of 2 megapixel. As expected, a microUSB port, Bluetooth, WiFi, a gyroscope and the GPS are also presented on board. The battery has a capacity of 7000 mAh, so we can expect reasonable battery life. The dimensions of the first Firefox OS tablet are 266 x 170 x 9.7 mm and its weight is of 580g.

All these features draws the outlines for a midrange tablet. The price is unknown at this time, but I expect it to find the InFocus New tab F1 at a reasonable price. If the Firefox OS devices teach us anything, it is that Mozilla wants to create device that can be bought by normal people, so you can understand that this tablet will probably cost between $200 and $400.

I haven’t had the chance to see Firefox OS in action, just watch the following video. It presents a short comparison between Mozilla’s OS and the good old Android.
