Let’s face it, our interest in electric cars has increased significantly in recent years, especially thanks to Elon Musk and his Tesla cars. Now, it seems that we have a leader in the field when it comes to speed. This is NIO EP9.
NextEV is a company that has become quite popular lately, but they lack that outstanding product to create a buzz on the market. This does not mean that the cars designed by them are dull. Not at all! Their product, NIO EP9, has just been tested recently and it reached the performance to be the fastest electric car in the world.
NIO EP9 managed to finish the circuit at Nurburing, Germany in just 7 minutes and 5 seconds, which is better than the previous recorded time. With this performance, NIO EP9 just earned a place the Guinness Book. After announcing their performance, folks at NextEV have mentioned that this car will not go into series production. The technology developed so far and implemented in this electric car will be the basis of many other series cars to be launched in the future by the company. Instead, NIO EP9 will be produced in just 6 copies and all of them will go to the company’s founders. Incidentally, the production costs for one such electric car are around 1.2 million dollars.
This electric car is the sublime mix of classical technology and unmatched electrical performance. Basically, we are talking about a car with two seats, four engines and four individual gearboxes that deliver one megawatt of power (1,341bhp). This system results in an acceleration of 2.7 seconds from 0 to 62 mph. This electric car reached 124 mph in 7.1 seconds and it reached 300 km / h in 15.9 seconds.
The total weight of the car is 1735 kg, 635 kg of which are just the batteries. Such a set of batteries is sufficient for a 427 km journey. Still, it is damn expensive!
